What is the difference between “Chatting with a friend” and “Professional Counselling”?

Some people may not accept seeing a trained professional counsellor but rather chatting with a friend, relatives or/ and others.  This perspective may prolong suffering and keep them in some difficult and challenging circumstances without “let-go” ways. Without exploring the needs underlying the issues in a professional manner, chatting with friends may even intensify the existing problematic issues.  On the other hand, a therapist can work with you to understand more about your needs on the unconscious level and try out new strategies to resolve issues in life. These new strategies could be learning ways to balance work and personal life, dealing with issues in addictions, interpersonal relationships, parenting, emotions management, grief and loss, or seeking help with career direction.

Professional counselling can improve your quality of life when it is already well enough. It’s a helpful guide for you to make informed decisions under a confidential environment. Each one of our clinical team members provide clinically-based, licensed counselling services based on their accredited education and training.  In addition, we are resourceful to guide you to reach out to other community-served partners, health care and other related field’ professionals.  When necessary, we make referrals to recreational programs, child care programs, support groups’ programs, legal advisors, home relocation advisors and / or access to local health care systems.

How to use your Insurance Plans?

Your extended health benefits and insurance plans through your employers may cover all or part of the cost of counselling services. Please consult with your insurance company for more details.

The details you may want to check with your insurance company and group plans are:

• The type of services you are eligible for (e.g., Registered Social worker, Registered Clinical Counsellor, Canadian Certified Counsellor, Psychologist, etc);
 • The annual reimbursement amount you are eligible for;

What is Sliding Scale Fees for Counselling?

Sliding Scales are designed for individuals and families who are in need of counselling services but experience financial difficulties.  In order to meet your financial needs, a sliding scale for $150 -$180/session is available for eligible clients. Please feel free to consult with us regarding the sliding scale.

What are the alternative options for Counselling with a sliding scale?

Accepted Answer

The designated package is:

• $ 150 per hour
 • $ 200 for 2 hours
 • $ 800 for 6 sessions and increment

Such fees are thereby reduced for those who save money, or alternatively, less money to spare after their personal expenses, regardless of income.
