Dr. Johnson Ma is a Registered Clinical Psychologist based in Vancouver, BC. He earned his M.A. in organizational psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University and completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology with specialization in diversity community mental health at Palo Alto University.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ma works as an assistant professor of clinical psychology at the Adler University (Vancouver campus). Dr. Ma has experience in providing culturally appropriate mental health services to diverse underserved populations with severe mental illness and complex trauma in the San Francisco Bay Area, Waianae Coast of Oahu Island, and Vancouver, British Columbia.
His current focus of clinical work include psycho diagnostic assessment, psycho educational assessment, and psychotherapy to individuals/immigrants Treatment areas include depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, chronic pain management, and rehabilitation from physical injuries and traumatic events. His psychotherapeutic approach is drawing from a diverse range of treatment modalities including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy and somatic experiencing.
Dr. Ma was the former coordinator of SUCCESS Chinese Help lines. He has presented various Chinese psycho educational workshops aimed to raise awareness of mental health and adjustment issues among Chinese immigrant communities living in the lower mainland.
